Australia joined the race. After the dinosaurs
A new front in the search for dinosaur remains has opened on the natural map of the world – Australia.
This happened, according to the France Press agency, thanks to the latest discovery by Australian paleontologists, who with the help of bulldozers and literally with their bare hands excavated the most interesting finds of prehistoric times in a small lake near the town of Winton in the Australian state of Queensland.
Under a thick layer of heavy clay, they saw the first discovery since 1981 – the fossilized remains of a predatory theropod dinosaur and two giant sauropod dinosaurs.
The rarest fossils date back to the geological epoch, going back 98 million years ago.
The discovery, which was immediately listed as one of the most significant in the paleontological community, belongs to paleontologist Scott Hocknall from the Queensland Museum and a group of researchers led by him.
Theropod is a dinosaur from the family of tyrannosaurs.
Hocknall compares him to the velociraptors made famous by the Hollywood blockbuster "Jurassic Park."&The only difference is that theropods are many times larger and immeasurably more terrifying.
In an open area, it was not difficult for theropods to overpower and prey on any prey. His main weapon was three huge claws on each of his two paws.
The paleontologist wittily described the theropod found in Australia as the "Australian answer" to the famous velociraptors.
The discovered two sauropod dinosaurs belong to the category of peaceful herbivorous animals - to the family of giant titanosaurs. They are the largest living creatures that have ever walked on our planet.
The discoveries made, scientists are convinced, represent a real breakthrough in understanding the prehistoric living conditions in Australia.
The vast, as yet unexplored vast expanses of the Green Continent, they are convinced, may contain true treasures from the point of view of paleontology.
Previously, when it came to dinosaurs, we were referring primarily to such regions as North and South America, Europe, Africa, but by no means Australia.
Now, thanks to the discoveries made, the Green Continent has immediately become one of the most inspiring and exciting areas in the paleontological research of vertebrates.
Thus, a continent similar in scale to North America awaits new research and exploration.
